Friday Book Trailer

Today I am posting a book trailer for a book I have not read yet.  But the video is absolutely hilarious.  It's Ellen "auditioning" for the Fifty Shades of Grey audiobookEverywhere I go, I am hearing about this book.  Everyone is talking about it, some reviews are great, others not so much.  I haven't decided if I am going to read it.  But that seems to be my MO with really popular books for some reason.  I waited until about 2000 before finally reading the Harry Potter series - and loved it.  Same with Diana Gabaldon, kept seeing her books at the store and would read the back cover.  But I would always put the book back and think I would get it next time.  Once I finally picked one of her books up, I was hooked.  Although the opposite happened with the Twilight series.  Everyone was telling me to read it, when I finally did I was disappointed.  So I am still on the fence about this book, but still find this video highly entertaining.

You might also want to check out the first 3 chapters of a parody, apparently this guy also has a book deal now http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13548945-fifty-one-shades.

Friday Book Trailer

I came across the trailer for McCarty's The Viper  this morning, can't wait to get this book.  It came out this past Tuesday, but I probably won't have time to get it until next week.

Friday Book Trailer

Here's another Friday book trailer that is actually a trailer for a movie based on a book.  This time it's Janet Evanovich's One for the Money.

I haven't read any of the books since #6 because I was getting tired of the triangle between Stephanie, Joe and Ranger (I was a Joe girl, but also found Ranger hot - he just needed his own girl).  I also found that the books were becoming too formulaic with the jokes and characters.  I tried reading numbers 7 and 8 but couldn't finish either one.  I think the series is up to 17 now.  I absolutely loved the first 6 books and read each one a couple of times.  So I think I might actually check this movie out when it comes out in January.  Meanwhile, I think it might be time for a re-read of One for the Money.

Friday Book Trailer

Since I am in the mood for Scottish historicals, here is a video of the Scottish highlands.  I think it will help set the mood for the reading of any highlander romance.

Friday Book Trailer

Something a little different for today's book trailer.  It's a news clip about Harlequin romance novels, book covers and a little bit about the history of the romance genre.  With Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd (mmmm Paul Rudd!) reading from some books!

Friday Book Trailer

Check it out!  Hilarious book trailer for Maya Banks' new trilogy.  I first saw it at Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.

I am so looking forward to this trilogy, I haven't read any of Banks' books, but if a historical book involves Highlanders, kidnapping, enemy clans, and revenge, I am hooked!  Not sure what that says about me, and pretty sure I don't want to know!

Friday Book Trailer

Today's book trailer is for one of my favourite books from the Midnight Breed series; Ashes of Midnight.  This series by Lara Adrian follows the vampires who are members of The Order.  Their main purpose is to protect humans and vampires from Rogue vampires - blood addicted vampires.  Lately, though, they are having to deal with one evil entity who's sole purpose is to rule the world.  The vampires are hot and the heroines are intelligent, independent, strong and willing to fight.  Ashes of Midnight follows the story of Claire Roth and Andreas Reichen.  One time lovers, Andreas now despises Claire and only wants revenge.  Can I just say that I love stories that have old lovers who despise each other come back together?  The newest book, Deeper Than Midnight, will be out at the end of this month.

Friday Book Trailer

Today's book trailer is for one of my favourite historical authors; Lisa Kleypas (she is also on my list of favourite contemporary authors).

But this handsome Gypsy is a man of mysterious origins—and he fears that the darkness of his past could crush delicate, luminous Win. So Kev refuses to submit to temptation…and before long Win is torn from him by a devastating twist of fate.
Then, Win returns to England…only to find that Kev has hardened into a man who will deny love at all costs. Meantime, an attractive, seductive suitor has set his sights on Win. It’s now or never for Kev to make his move. But first, he must confront a dangerous secret about his destiny—or risk losing the only woman he has lived for…

Friday Book Trailer

Once again I am not doing a true book trailer, but a trailer for a show based on a book.  This time it is The Game of Thrones.  I started watching the show last weekend online and was immediately sucked in.  I am now caught up and ready to watch the 8th episode.  Of course now I want to read the book and must have it immediately.  So I am off to the library to see if the first book is available.

Friday Book Trailer

I seem to be in the mood for historical romances lately, especially Viking novels.  Anyone have any recommendations for Vikings?  I've read and enjoyed books by Lindsey (of course), Diana Groe and Josie Litton.  Anyway, here is the book trailer for Johanna Lindsey's Fires of Winter.

Friday Book Trailer

I completely forgot to do a book trailer last week!  I have no idea what happened.  Oh well, today I decided to see if there was a trailer for The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and here it is.

Friday Book Trailer

I haven't read any books from this author, but I think I will be on the lookout for her books.  Here is the book trailer for Christine Young's Highland Honor.

Friday Book Trailer

In honour of Kate and William's impending nuptials, today's "book trailer" is a tribute to the couple.

Only 5 more hours until the wedding where I will be sitting on my couch with a cup of tea and some scones.  I am predicting that Kate will wear a tiara and her dress will be slim and form fitting with a lace overlay and sleeves.  Maybe something like this:

Friday Book Trailer

Not really a book trailer, it's chapter one of Nora Roberts' Chasing Fire audiobook.

There's little as thrilling as firefighting-at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are in Rowan's blood: her father is a legend. She's been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday. At this point, returning to the wilds of Montana for the season feels like coming home-even with reminders of the partner she lost last season still lingering.

Fortunately, this year's rookie crop is one of the strongest ever-and Gulliver Curry's one of the best. He's also a walking contradiction, a hotshot firefighter with a big vocabulary and a winter job at a kids' arcade.

Everything is thrown off balance when a dark presence lashes out against Rowan, looking to blame someone for last year's tragedy. Rowan knows she can't complicate things with Gull-any distractions in the air or on the ground could mean the end-but if she doesn't find someone she can lean on, she may not make it through the summer. . . .

I picked this book up a couple of days ago (review to come soon) and am on Chapter 10.  So far so good.

Friday Book Trailer

Today's book trailer is actually for an upcoming movie, Jane Eyre.

I first read Jane Eyre when I was 10 years old.  I started to read it again this past week, and am finding it a bit boring and dry.  But seeing this trailer makes me want to push through.  There had to be some reason I have kept this book for over twenty years.  But what drew me first to Jane Eyre was The Curse of the Concullens by Florence Stevenson:

Lucy Ayers loved to fancy herself the heroine of a great romantic novel.  But the moment she moved into ancient O'Hagan Castle, all her fanciful dreams fast took on a nightmare reality.

Beneath her window a wailing banshee foretold doom and destruction.  Chained within the bowels of the castle, a young child bared his teeth at the moon and lusted for blood.  In the rotting woods an unknown creature lurked, eager to rip out the throats of those who ventured too near.

It was no wonder, then, that two governesses had already vanished.  Yet Lucy was determined to stay on.  As an outsider, perhaps only she could escape the dreadful Curse of the Concullens...and free the attractive man who lived under it...

I found this Gothic romance with vampires, werewolves, and governesses in my mom's bookshelf and kept it ever since. How did this book make me want to read Jane Eyre you ask?  Well it was Lucy's favourite book and the reason she became a governess.  So I just had to read it.  The book is out of print, but used copies are still available at Amazon.

Friday Book Trailer

For all those Sweet Valley High lovers here is the book trailer for the newest book Sweet Valley Confidential.

It's ten years later. Are Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield still fighting?  Is Todd still around? What about Cara and Steve? I have no idea. I started reading this series when I was nine and stopped when I was 13. I think I stopped reading around book number 45. Something tells me I am going to spend the next hour looking for a synopsis for the whole series. Not sure I am going to buy the book, but I might get it from the library if it is available.

Friday Book Trailer

Today's book trailer is for Kristan Higgin's All I Ever Wanted.

I read this book last year, and once again based my decision to read it on the cover. I love rocking chairs, houses with wide porches, and Irish Setters so how could I resist? I've enjoyed previous books by Higgins so I was pretty sure I was in for a good read.  The music in this book trailer is very Sex and the City.
